Survey finds teens share prescription meds

August 18, 2009 A survey of nearly 600 teens from across the country finds 20 percent lent a prescription drug to a friend. A similar percentage said they borrowed medications.

The most commonly shared prescriptions were allergy drugs and narcotic pain relievers.

Many of the children claimed they borrowed medications so they didn't have to see a doctor.

Researchers say this raises several health risks, including the possibility of dangerous side effects or having a problem go undiagnosed.
