Survey: Average video gamer is 35, unhealthy

August 20, 2009 According to a new survey, the average American video gamer is 35 years old and not all that healthy physically or emotionally.

The report in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine finds serious adult players are overweight, introverted and may be depressed. Men who played video games weighed more and used the internet more. Female players reported greater levels of depression.

Scientists suspect the games may be a form of digital self-medication and a way to avoid real world social activities.
