Charges pending in fatal Edens crash

Charges are pending in a weekend crash that killed two teenagers from Chicago. The crash happened early Sunday morning on the Edens Expressway near Dempster.

Investigators say the driver of SUV was speeding when he lost control and hit a tree. Authorities are looking into whether alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Melvin Maldonado, 18, and 16-year-old Magnolia Villafuerte of Chicago were killed. The driver, a 21-year-old male, remains hospitalized in Evanston with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say no one inside the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
