Children's hospital gets new heating system

August 25, 2009 (CHICAGO) Governor Pat Quinn was among those on hand to celebrate the hospital's new solar energy system. It will serve as the primary source of heat for the hospital's therapy pool. The system will keep the pool nice and warm even when it's really cold outside.

Also, the solar energy system will help the hospital save on its electric bill and be environmentally friendly.

"Our new solar system will displace much of the electric water heater use with solar energy. We are extremely pleased with this initiative and the multiple benefits it provides the hospital," said Bob Kuehn, Shriner's Hospital.

It's estimated that the solar system will offset CO2 emissions equal to planting 10 acres of trees every year.
