Patients using Twitter to stay informed

August 26, 2009 Health experts say Twitter may be a great method to keep patients informed about medical issues.

According to an article in the latest issue of Telemedicine and E-Health, hospitals and health care organizations are finding that Twitter is a convenient way to keep in touch with a lot of patients at one time.

Tweets can be used for such things as tracking disease outbreaks, informing patients about medical trials, and sending out health alerts and drug safety warnings.

But researchers warn that precaution must be used when dealing with private patient information.
