Affordable Back to School Clothes for Teens

If you're teens aren't back in school yet, they soon will be. And no matter the weather or the economic climate, they'll be clamoring for new clothes. Style Expert Jenn Falik says you don't have to spend a lot for your teens to wear the hottest looks. Check out Old Navy for budget-friendly, must-have styles that teens can afford. Jenn says Old Navy has hundreds of styles in store that can be styled in any number of ways for teens to create looks that best reflect who they want to "be" for fall; prices are so reasonable that many must-have items ring in at $10 a pop. Jenn says these are popular back-to-school trends for teens:

Layering

In an effort to make clothing "season-less" so you can wear items all year long, layering has taken center stage.
  • Long sleeve T's under lightweight dresses for girls with a scarf wrapped around the neck, or for guys, t-shirts under button downs with a hoodie to top it all off.
  • And vests- puffy or tailored- are also perfect to throw on with just about anything- for both sexes.

Rock & Roll Edge

  • From vintage concert logos screened onto washed out T's to plaid button downs that look fresh of the tour bus, we are seeing styles that feel effortless and lived in, but still stylized.
  • And for guys- instead of the tradition backpack, messenger bags are the new way to go, slung across the back like an old guitar.

80's Inspiration

  • From giant collars to structured shoulders, silhouettes from the '80s are back in a big way.
  • This is also translating into color trends- we are seeing lots of neon accents and even distressed denim washes and skinny leg styles (even for guys!) that recall the decade.
  • Not to mention leggings- which girls can, and should, wear under anything and everything.

Classic Pieces with a Twist

  • If you are going to buy "basics," don't make them too basic this fall. Teens can wear what they already have in their closet on the everyday staple front, and then add in wearable "amped up" basics.
  • So simple sweaters are brightly colored, daytime dresses have fun patterns, dress shirts have unique insignias.
  • And classic cords are classic in fit- slim to the body- but come in shades other than your usual khaki.
