Davis officially running for Cook Co. Board president

Sept. 6, 2009 (CHICAGO) Davis chose to make his announcement on his birthday. After passing out some birthday cake, he outlined his campaign plans.

The congressman says he wants a higher standard of care in county health facilities, and he says he wants to streamline county operations and, hopefully, cut taxes.

However, Davis refused to say whether he would have favored the recent increase in the county sales tax.

"Taxpayers in Cook County are leery of paying the highest sales tax in the nation, and they want to know where their money is going," he said.

Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown, Ald. Toni Preckwinkle and Water Reclamation District President Terence O'brien have all announced they will run for county board president, as well.

Current president, Todd Stroger, has not said officially whether he will seek another term.
