Officials in Gary, Indiana are proposing a plan to get rid of the city's two gambling boats and build a new land-based casino. Gary mayor Rudy Clay and Majestic Star Casino owner Don Barden are both in favor of a proposal to shutter Gary's two gambling boats on Lake Michigan.

Barden tells the northwest Indiana times that it's time for Indiana to move away from older riverboat gambling venue.

Mayor Clay and two Indiana lawmakers are in favor of building a new casino at the Broadway exit of interstate 80-94.

Mayor Clay says he believes a new land-based casino would attract new hotels, restaurants and retail stores.
