New standards for fuel economy

The Obama administration unveils new standards for fuel economy.The Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency announced the new rules which require better gas mileage for cars and trucks.

By the year 2016, all new vehicles must average 35.5 miles per gallon. The current fuel economy average is 27.3 miles per gallon.

The new standards also include the first-ever rules for reducing vehicle greenhouse gas emissions.
