High school remembers fallen soldier

A northwest suburban high school is remembering a soldier and former student who was killed in Iraq. On Thursday, Bartlett High School dedicated a plaque in memory of private first class Leonard Gulcynski.

The soldier died one year ago on Thursday. He was severely injured when his vehicle was involved in an accident in Baghdad.

Private First Class Gulcynski is remembered as a hero.

"Although it sadness us to remember the sacrifice that this young man made and how he was taken from us at such an early age. It's about honoring and celebrating private Leonard Gulcynski for his bravery his patriotism and most of all the young man he was and always will be in our hearts," said Dr. Kevin Skinkis, principal, Bartlett Hugh School.

Private First Class Gulcynski graduated from Bartlett High School in 2007. He played volleyball, basketball and football when he was a student there.
