World Fashion Chicago celebrates Chicago's global connection to fashion

September 18, 2009 (PRESS RELEASE) Building upon the tremendous success of past shows, Chicago Sister Cities International will once again feature some of the hottest international fashions, showcasing high-end designers that represent each of Chicago's 28 sister cities. A testament to Chicago's burgeoning fashion industry, the show will feature more than 35 local and international designers, including a select number of internationally-based talents looking to make their mark on the Chicago fashion scene.

ABC7's Linda Yu will serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies.

"Chicago has always been a diverse city, and nowhere is this more evident than in the city's growing fashion industry," said Mayor Richard M. Daley. "Through World Fashion Chicago, Chicago Sister Cities International, not only showcases Chicago's 28 Sister Cities but also celebrates the internationally-inspired fashion designers who live and work in our city."

Designs from sister cities, including the fashion centers of Paris, Milan, and Prague, will take the stage at the Harris Rooftop Terrace at Millennium Park. World Fashion Chicago will provide a unique and exciting convergence of fashions from around the world, featuring high-end apparel by designers who have roots in all 28 of Chicago's international sister cities.

This year's show will feature a mix of high-end designers, including local talent like Melissa Serpico, Vika Brown, John Shultz and Anna Fong. World Fashion will also feature five designers who are traveling to Chicago to be featured in the show including: Amman, Jordan; Casablanca, Morocco; Petach Tikva, Israel; Vilnius, Lithuania; and Shanghai, China.

The evening will continue with an after-party at Cuvee, Chicago's newest ultra-lounge.

Designers Featured On ABC7 Chicago

Sylwia W

She came to the US from Poland when she was 19. While she was in Poland, she studied graphic design, and she taught herself how to sew. Sylwia worked for Elite Modeling Agency, in Chicago, and found her passion for design. She started off making custom clothes for friends and family members, which later resulted in a group of private clients. She had her clothes in many Chicago boutiques, such as NYLA, and a store in Glenview. Now she is working on a line for a lower price for a few of the boutiques in Chicago. Her inspiration comes from woman, and the ways they dress. She is also inspired by fabrics, and old black & white movies where the women were feminine and classic.

5p1t

Two friends Daryl Sneed and Richard Morse launched 5p1t in 2007. They create classic silhouettes that are integrated with modern fabrication, trims and details. The 5p1t unique labeling came from a representation of jeans 5 pockets and 1 t-shirt.

Anna Fong

Borrowing from her unique heritage of Guatemalan-Chinese, Anna brings a fresh new concept in the world of fashion that exudes traditional elegance and sophistication. Anna has dazzled the fashion world with her creations on international stages. Recently nominated as the 2008 rising star of new designers by Fashion Group International she is destined to make a significant mark in the international arena of new women designers. In designing her collection Ms. Fong draws inspiration from her favorite era of the 1940s and 1980s. She relies on such style influences as art, photographs, films, vintage wardrobes and the work of artist Freida Kahlo. These influences find their way into Fong's personal style, which are directly reflected in the Anna Fong collection.

Reggie Newport

Reggie Newport has been designing for 15 years. His creations appeal to the classic woman who loves beautiful fabrics exquisite details and pure sophistication. His designs have a signature style to make the woman who wears his creation the focal point of any occasion.

Tel Aviv Couture

Tali Kogan, Owner of Tel Aviv Couture in Chicago, showcases many designers of Israeli clothing and accessories. She came to Chicago, 6 years ago to study business and then started her company in 2007. She represents 25 designers such as D and A, Inbal Gvili and Lia. Many of the pieces at Tel Aviv Couture have an edge to them, and can be worn in many different ways. She says there's not much space in people's closets, so you must make the most of your clothes.
