Police: Armed felon arrested

September 19, 2009 (CHICAGO) The release indicates that Daryl Howard, 40, of the 4500 block of South Laramie was charged with one count of armed habitual criminal, a class X felony, and a misdemeanor charge of resisting/obstructing a peace officer, following a foot chase by officers working a robbery mission in Chicago's Near North neighborhood.

According to police, a sergeant working the mission initiated a traffic stop and repeatedly asked to see Howard's driver's license. Howard reportedly refused each request and was asked to step out of the vehicle. As he exited the vehicle, he reportedly locked the driver's side door, and positioned himself between the sergeant and the car door. As officers approached Howard in order to place him into custody, he fled the scene.

Officers pursued him and police say a Taser was used to make the arrest, which occurred at 2200 block of N. Stockton.

Authorities say Howard was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and subsequently charged.
