Man in standoff charged with parents' murder

September 24, 2009 (CHICAGO) Kermit Washington, 53, is charged with first-degree murder.

The bodies of 77-year old Johnnie Washington and 79-year old Joe Washington were found Tuesday night inside their home on South Kildare.

Police say that several hours later, Kermit Washington walked into the Jesse Brown Veterans Administration Medical Center.

He allegedly fired a shot into the ceiling before barricading himself in an exam room. After several hours of negotiations he surrendered to police.

Prosecutors said in court Wednesday that Washington had been using crack cocaine before the shootings.
