Cabbie honored for helping police

September 25, 2009 (CHICAGO) On Friday, Abdinasir Kahin was named Cab Driver of the Year.

Last month, he was driving his taxi near the Belmont El station when he saw a man running from police.

Kahin jumped out of his vehicle, grabbed the offender, and held him until officers arrived.

"I had an obligation towards the city in protecting the glory of Chicago," said Abdinasir Kahin, Cab Driver of the Year.

"It's Mr. Kahin's sense of obligation to involve himself to take an active role in the safety of our city. this action will hopefully inspire others," said Officer Tim O'Brien, Chicago Police Department.

Kahin received a plaque and a cash reward. His handprints will also be added to Drivers of the Year Walk of Fame.
