Starbucks begins selling instant coffee

September 29, 2009 The coffee shop giant began selling ready-the to-brew coffee called Via on Tuesday.

It will also be sold at select stores including Target, CostCo and Office Depot.

It was test marketed in Seattle and in Chicago.

Instant coffee accounts for 40 percent of coffee sales worldwide. Starbucks wants a piece of that market.

Via is sold in 3-cup packs or 12-cup packs and costs about a dollar a cup.
