Hospital makes flu shots mandatory

September 30, 2009 Rush University Medical Center is requiring vaccines for all employees, students, volunteers and contractors.

The shots are free.

Exemptions may be granted for medical and other reasons. But those who do not get a shot will be required to wear a face mask while in all patient areas during flu season.

The vaccine for H1N1 will also be mandatory, depending on its availability.

Earlier this month, Loyola University Medical Center became the first local hospital to require seasonal flu shots for workers.
