Calderon had just returned from a barbecue July 29, 2007 at a friend's house when, witnesses say, a group of people drove up in front of his Southwest Side home and fired two shots.
Calderon was hit in the head by a bullet and later died at the hospital.
While police say the shooting appeared to be gang-related, Calderon's family said at the time he was not a member of any gang.
"The car passed by again, and they told them to drop the forks. My brother got up [and said] 'We aint got nothing here. We don't gang bang. Go on about your business. We ain't nothing here,'" said Jessica Zavala, the victim's sister, in 2007.
Calderon was a champion boxer who won many trophies and awards over the years. He graduated from Curie High School.
