Plans to open suburban Muslim center move forward

October 20, 2009 (CHICAGO) The DuPage County development board voted Tuesday to allow the Irshad Learning Center to open on 75th Street as long as all activities wrap up by 10:30 at night.

Parking accommodations must by made and landscaping has to be added.

Some neighbors have been fighting the project for months. They say they are concerned about and crowds in the quiet part of town. But some from the Muslim center fear their religion played a role in local opposition.

"Islam is not getting a very fair representation in the united states we are a group of highly committed citizens. we want to be every bit a part of this society," said Mojtaba Noursalehi, Irshad Learning Center.

The full DuPage County board votes on the issue next week.
