A South Side man is charged with running down a Cook County Sheriff's deputy with his vehicle. Forty-three-year-old James Cooper is charged with one count of aggravated battery to a peace officer.

A sheriff's deputy reportedly approached a suspicious vehicle near the county jail on Saturday night.

Cooper was allegedly inside and refused to move. He then sped off, striking the officer and dragging him 10 feet.

Cooper was arrested Sunday when he returned to the scene in the same car.

The deputy had minor injuries.
