Today Ford unveiled a new vehicle safety restraint as an inflatable seatbelt. The belts are designed to improve safety for backseat passengers, especially children and the elderly.

Ford says the inflatable seatbelts help reduce pressure on a passenger's chest and helps control neck and head motion during a crash.

Ford will debut its inflatable rear seatbelts in next year's Explorer SUV And will add them to all vehicles at a later date.
