Governor Quinn called the home a top priority.
"We're gonna do it in an environmentally friendly way, in a healthy way," Quinn said. "We especially have to take care of our veterans who are suffering from Alzheimer's disease. And this will be a state-of-the-art medical facility that we really desperately need in Illinois. We have waiting lists for our veterans' homes.
The home for men and women is being financed by both the state and federal governments. Residents will be charged based on ability to pay, and those who are needy can live there free.
