There are new numbers on the opening of the holiday shopping season.195 million shoppers were hitting the stores over the weekend, more than last year, however, shoppers spent less. Each spent an average of $343, down from $373 last year.

Some people shopping on Michigan Avenue said they're keeping an eye out for deals.

"Definitely more conservative, not shopping, not grabbing everything, just studying the prices a little bit more," Colleen Wallace said.
