New study says cell phones are safe

December 3, 2009 The Scandinavian study finds no increase in the rate of brain tumors even as cell phone use rose dramatically.

The research in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute examines the rates of brain tumors in four countries between 1974 and 2003. It found no evidence of an increase as mobile phones became widely popular.

Because the wireless devices emit radio frequency waves, some scientists have suggested the phones may increase brain tumors.
