2 injured in apartment building fire

December 5, 2009 (CHICAGO) It happened in the 8200-block of South Ellis Avenue. The building was only partially occupied at the time of the fire.

One resident was taken to a hospital in good condition, and a firefighter suffered minor leg injuries. A quick-thinking resident alerted her neighbors about the fire.

"I knocked on everybody's door," said Norma Woods, resident. "I was sitting in the window because I was looking for my brother to come, and I had seen the flames. And I looked out the window, I lifted the screen up and I said, 'That's fire.' And I hung out and told the guys sitting out front that the building was on fire."

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
