Experts: Parents should talk to kids sooner about sex

When it comes to the topic of the "birds and the bees" many parents are apparently waiting too long. A study in the Journal of Pediatrics finds in many cases the conversation occurs "after" and not "before" children start experimenting sexually- possibly even in risky ways.

Some experts say parents should take the lead.

Parents need to figure out the age they think is appropriate and then subtract two years and have the talk at that age instead.

The children in the study were ages 13 to 17.
