A festive group of holiday revelers were on hand for Sunday night's menorah lighting ceremony in Skokie.A youth choir helped add a musical touch to the proceedings.

The menorah is one of the oldest symbols of the Jewish faith, and the eight-day celebration of Hanukkah, which began on Friday.

The country's national menorah was lit earlier Sunday during a festival of lights ceremony in the nation's capitol.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel served as the guest of honor at the event, which took place in front of the White House.

Sunday's ceremony marked the 30th anniversary of the first national menorah lighting back in 1979.
