Grandma Irvine's Molasses Cookies

December 14, 2009 This was my Grandma's specialty

2 cups light molasses
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup solid crisco, melted
1 1/2 cup raisins (but I use at least 2 cups!)
1 T baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
10T hot water (approximately 5 oz)
3 eggs
5-6 cups flour (depends on kitchen temperature)

In LARGE bowl, combine and mix in order listed. Use enough flour to make a stiff batter. Let sit at room temp for about an hour. Drop by large spoonfuls on baking sheet. Bake in 350 oven 10-12 minutes. Batter will spread slightly during baking. YIELD: 6-7 dozen. Keep wrapped in airtight container to avoid drying out, and separate layers using waxed paper. They should be moist and cake-like.

These cookies were so loved by us as kids that Gram would make a dozen for each of us as a Christmas present and wrapt them in a shoe box! She made this recipe from memory, and in later years I worked with her to get it written down. The greatest compliment my family can give me is to tell me "they're just like Grandma's!"
