Group helps family displaced by fire

Less than two weeks before Christmas, a South Side family lost everything in a fire.The Coleman family's home at the Altgeld Gardens public housing complex caught fire on Monday. Everyone got out safely but they have just the clothes on their backs and no insurance.

On Tuesday, the group Aftermath Relief got the family checked into a room donated by the Blake Hotel. They'll stay there for a couple of days until the CHA can move them into a new apartment.

"It's a real nice hotel. I love it. I'm just happy because it could have been worse off," said Sharon Coleman.

"The kids don't understand about disasters. But we're going to try to make it so they will understand that we can turn sad into a smile," said Kirk Williams, Aftermath Relief.
