Memorial held for former Board of Education president

December 16, 2009 (CHICAGO) It was read with members of his family on hand.

"Michael W. Scott had transformative impact on the Chicago Public School System, providing leadership and guidance, which has greatly contributed to the national recognition of the Chicago Public Schools."

Scott died Nov. 15. Investigators say he committed suicide.

His widow asked the board to continue his work.

"Michael believed that public service was a privilege and took it very seriously and I only hope that you all continue to work in that spirit," Diana Palomar Scott said.

Scott headed the Board Of Education twice under Mayor Daley.
