It happened after he was captured last Tuesday near Italy's northern border with France. Weinberger is from Merrillville, Indiana. He disappeared from more than five years ago amid mounting charges of fraud and malpractice.
Prosecutors are now working to have Weinberger extradited back to the U.S. to face criminal charges. That could take more than a year unless Weinberger waives extradition.
