Text message feature added for instant CTA updates

December 22, 2009 (CHICAGO) On Tuesday, the transit authority announced the addition of a new text message feature.

All commuters have to do is send the text "CTA bus," all one word, and a bus stop identification number to number 41 411. That is how you can receive an estimated arrival time for the next two buses at your stop.

"Two way texting allows customers to minimize their wait time which is very welcome during winter makes it safer for those traveling alone late at night. It's also very useful tool in February when the bus service will be reduced by 18 percent," said Richard Rodriguez, CTA president.

In addition to text messaging, the CTA introduced a customized email alert feature in May that allows customers to subscribe to e-mail updates for their routes.
