Poll gages time Americans spend surfing Web

December 23, 2009 (CHICAGO) A new poll by Harris interactive finds the average American now spends about 13 hours each week surfing the Web. That time does not include e-mailing.

The poll finds 80 percent of U.S. adults are online at work, at home or on the go.

Internet usage peaked at 14 hours each week back in October of 2008. That surge is attributed to the beginning of the recession and the presidential election.

The age group that spends the most time online each week is 30 to 39-year olds. They spend an average of 18 hours each week on the internet.
