Disappointed Northwestern fans return to area

January 2, 2010 (CHICAGO) Purple-clad fans arrived back in Chicago from the Outback bowl happy to have witnessed one of the most exciting games of the bowl season.

In the end, the team's valiant effort against Auburn came up two yards short on a fake field goal in overtime.

Fans agree, it was an unfortunate ending to a great game and season.

"I'm very proud of the team they never gave up. They came awfully close and one of these years we're gonna get one," said Northwestern alum Mary Zambrano.

"I'm still happy with the season overall, but eventually we have to win a bowl game," said Patrick Lester, a Northwestern University.

"We're now going toe-to-toe with very good teams from very strong conferences and so I'm looking forward to next year," alum Pat Casey said.

With the loss, Northwestern finishes 8 and 5 on the season.
