January 4, 2010 (CHICAGO) --
Standees, the legendary greasy spoon restaurant in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, served up its last meal Monday, but the restaurant may not be gone for good. The 24-hour snack shop is moving out of its location at 1133 W. Granville after 60 years in business. At 6 a.m. Monday morning it turned off its sign and shut its doors.
The restaurant's operator says its lease was not renewed despite a petition signed by hundreds of customers and a Facebook campaign to save it.
Standee's owner says he plans to reopen the restaurant around March just a few storefronts down the street.
