Chicago police say a 42-year-old woman and a SWAT officer were wounded in a hostage standoff.
Police say officers responded to a domestic call late Friday and learned that a man with a handgun was refusing to allow a woman to leave an apartment.
SWAT officers were called in, and the building was evacuated.
After negotiations, the woman tried to leave the apartment but was allegedly shot by the man. As she ran out, she collided with SWAT officers, causing one to fall and shoot himself in the leg.
The woman was in stable condition Saturday. The officer's injuries weren't considered life-threatening. Both were continuing to recover Sunday.
The 30-year-old man was taken into custody, but not before a fire started on the building's second floor. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
