Former WVON radio host dies

January 11, 2010 WVON radio said Wesley South died this weekend at the age of 95.

South was one of the first African Americans to graduate from Northwestern's journalism school. He started his radio career in 1963 with a show that featured interviews with Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X and others. Later, he formed Midway Broadcasting Corporation and changed WVON's format to full-time talk.

South's funeral will be held Saturday in Chicago.
