Study: Extraordinary increase in drug prices

January 12, 2010 The biggest increase have been for drugs to treat depression, infections, and heart disease.

The GAO, or non-partisan General Accountability Office, says prices they looked at for 321 brand name drugs jumped anywhere from 100 percent to a whopping 499 percent, and in a few cases by more than 1,000 percent.

But the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America criticized the GAO report for focusing on "only a small number of selected brand medicines."
