"My heart goes out to these kids. I'm so proud to get the opportunity and that my church lets us do all this," said Kristy Sailor, who was participating in a fundraising show.
"We're just glad to be able to help in some way," said another participant identified as Connor.
Connor and Kristy were two of the many teenaged talents participating in the fundraiser in Bartlett Friday evening that had taken on a whole new meaning.
"When they found out about the earthquake on Tuesday, it just seemed to escalate this event right over the top. We have a ton more support, a ton more interest in the show," said youth leader Theresa Fowler.
Also participating in the relief efforts was a Chicago area pastor from Remember the Children. She told ABC7 Chicago her goal was is to send at least a dozen shipping containers each month to Haiti for the rest of the year.
"Not just a band aid. We need to address the situation in Haiti," Pastor Claude Pressoir said.
