Grant to beef up substance abuse services

January 16, 2010 (WAUKEGAN, Ill.) The money for the Lake County Health Department is from the Illinois Department of Human Services' alcohol and substance abuse division.

Officials say a nearly $900,000 cut in state funding in 2008 forced Lake County to slash its substance abuse services. The new money will be used to rebuild a number of affected programs.

Some of the incoming funds will enable the health department to hire new substance abuse counselors at several Lake County high schools.
