January 16, 2010 (CHICAGO) --
The offices of the Illinois Department of Employment Security will be closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, but the agency is urging job seekers not to let that stop them from accessing services. Many of the agency's resources are available online. People can file for first-time unemployment benefits, certify for benefits and switch to direct deposit.
Banks will be closed for the holiday as well, meaning the availability of some benefit payments could be delayed.
Monday is a federal holiday marking King's birthday. Illinois was among the first states to honor the slain civil rights leader with a state holiday.
