Prosecutors say Hassan set a fire last Thursday in a five-story building in the 6700-block of North Sheridan Road.
The fire was ruled suspicious after investigators found a gas can in a hallway.
Five people were also injured including a man who jumped from the fifth floor to escape the flames.
