Experimental MS drugs have side effects

January 20, 2010 The studies in The New England Journal of Medicine tested one drug made by Merck Serono and the other made by Novartis. The research found that patients on the pills were about half as likely to suffer relapses or symptoms.

But they also found the drugs significantly lowered immune defenses.

Researchers say it's too soon to know if the drugs will be approved by the government or widely adopted by physicians.
