Bifocals may help nearsighted kids maintain eyesight

January 21, 2010 A new study suggests bifocals may help nearsighted children maintain better vision.

Children with nearsightedness, or myopia, have trouble seeing objects clearly at a distance.

For some, the condition progresses quickly.

In a study among Chinese children, bifocals appeared to slow down the progress of the myopia. However, it is not clear whether the effect lasts or tapers off.

You can read more about the study in the current issue of Archives of Ophthalmology.
