January 22, 2010 (CHICAGO) --A Zion man whose attempted escape from custody was caught on surveillance tape last week has pleaded guilty to the charge he was first arrested for.Travis Copeland, 19, tried to escape by breaking through bulletproof glass at the Lake County courthouse last Wednesday. He ran down the courthouse skyway over Washington Street. When deputies surrounded him, he tried but failed to get through the glass.
Instead, Copeland smacked his head and then laid on the ground while officers handcuffed him.
Copeland is now on probation after pleading guilty to aggravated battery charges. Charges related to the escape have been dropped.
