Children from all over Chicagoland helped a boy celebrate his fifth birthday Sunday as he battles a rare, fatal disease.Jasper Duinstra suffers from Batten disease, which is slowly taking his ability to walk, see, and speak.

The life expectancy of kids with Batten disease is between 8 and 12 years.

Sunday, the Lakeshore Athletic club held a fundraising play-date party to help keep Jasper in treatment and help researchers find a cure.

In addition to all the fun kid's activities, Sunday's event included a silent auction, for which ABC7's Ravi Baichwal had the opportunity to serve as the master of ceremonies.
