Daley kicks off winter festival

January 28, 2010 (CHICAGO) Mayor Daley joined city tourism officials at the Chicago Cultural Center Thursday to help kick off the Chicago Winter Skating and Dance Festival.

Every weekend in February there will be free ice skating lessons, late night dance parties and demonstrations by professional ice dancers at the ice rink in Millennium Park.

Hotels and restaurants are also offering special deals to attract more tourists downtown.

Dorothy Cole, the director of Chicago's Office of Tourism says, "with there being so much to do in the city why not make a weekend of it this winter dozens of Chicago are offering really great rates and special add-ons that make this the perfect time to get away even if you live in Chicago."

This weekend the annual snow sculpture competition returns on Michigan Avenue.
