In his 16-page opinion, Judge Richard Posner calls the probation sentence a slap on the wrist. He adds, the penalty is so light, there is no assurance Vrdolyak wouldn't repeat the crime.
Judge David Hamilton Dissented, saying the judge who imposed the original sentence considered it thoughtfully.
