Police identify suspect in fatal Halloween hit-and-run

Carlos Castillo, whose last known address is 2600 block of West Jarlath, may have fled the city or be in hiding, according to Chicago police. The Hispanic male is described as 5'10" and 220 pounds.

"We are seeking your assistance in the location of Carlos Castillo. He is a male Hispanic 23 years of age. He may have fled the city or is in hiding," said Lt. Maureen McMahon, Chicago Police Department.

Police said a tip led them to a garage where Castillo's car showed damaged consistent with the hit-and-run.

"A search warrant was obtained and subsequently executed on a garage in the 2600 block of West Jarlath," said Lt. McMahon.

Rachel Gilliam, 25, was leaving her job at Bowman's Bar and Grill around 4:30 a.m. on October 31, 2009, when she was struck by a car in the 4300-block of North Lincoln. Police said the bartender, who was dressed as a bride for Halloween, was trying to flag down a cab.

Police said Castillo may have had a passenger in the car.

"His friend gave some information that he possibly had called them from Mexico. His last known place at work, where he quit his job on the second of November, and told his employer that his mother was ill and that he was going to Mexico to be with his mother," said Lt. McMahon.
