New stamp honors World War II hero

February 20, 2010 (CHICAGO) The ceremony took place Saturday afternoon at the Gen. Richard Jones Armory on South Cottage Grove.

The stamp honors Doris 'Dorie' Miller who served aboard the battleship West Virginia.

During the attack on Pearl Harbor, Miller helped rescue his shipmates. And when the captain was fatally wounded, Miller manned a 50-caliber machine gun although he had never been trained to use the weapon.
