Lunar New Year celebrations across Chicago area

February 20, 2010 (CHICAGO) The Lion Dance scares away bad luck and ushers in the new Year of the Tiger 4708.

One party at Truman College was organized by the Chinese Mutual Aid Association, and the Southeast Asia Center held a party at Furama restaurant on the city's North Side.

For the new year, children received red envelopes filled with crisp bills. The color red is significant because it means good luck or celebration.

The Vietnamese Association of Illinois held its celebration at St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox church. The organization aims to strengthen and help Vietnamese people across the state.
